Jill Draper Faux Ikat Blanket Class - $50.00
July 8th 6:30 pm to 9 pm
$50 class fee
15 person limit
In this class, we will dip our toes into the world of pooling with a quite forgiving pattern knitted in, simple-as-can-be, garter stitch. We will talk about the principles of color pooling with hand dyed yarn and using a formula type pattern everyone will leave with their own blanket started. This is a great way to start playing with making color line up vertically and a new way to show off hand dyed yarns that is fun, beautiful and relatively easy! You can use any weight of yarn it should be variegated. I prefer hand dyed, but that isn't required machine dyed will work too - I used about 500 yds of Aran weight for a good sized baby blanket / lap blanket. For a bed sized afghan you will need more like 1500 yards or with a finer yarn like fingering you will also need slightly more yardage. The pattern is so flexible you could easily convert it to a scarf or wrap if that is more your speed.
Supplies
* Approximately 500-1200yds of variegated yarn, depending on size desiredNote: The yarn needs to be dyed across the skein or in the round. It can't be "random" and the more stark the contrast between colors, the better. If you're looking for the perfect yarn for this blanket, we have an order of Catskill that will arrive in time for the class. Jill is dyeing variegated colorways with this application in mind.
* Needles recommended for the yarn gauge, plus any nearby sizes you have at home. Circular needles must be 24" or longer. We'll be knitting flat, but possibly with lots of stitches.
*Notebook for keeping track.
*Calculator for simple math (or a phone with that function)
